PCCW Teams Up With Ariba To Offer Turnkey E-Procurement Services To Asia-Pacific Enterprises

Hong Kong March 8, 2001 - Leading eCommerce platform and network-services providers PCCW (SEHK: 0008; NYSE: PCW [ADR]) and Ariba, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARBA) today announced a partnership to provide e-procurement turnkey solutions for Asia-Pacific businesses.

PCCW has become a Certified Ariba Systems Integrator in Asia ex-Japan, and will provide a full spectrum of B2B solutions, consultancy and implementation services. This will enable Asian-based companies to automate enterprise-wide procurement processes and optimize purchasing processes for greater efficiency and cost savings.

The e-procurement services will benefit businesses of all sizes and types, from big corporations to medium-sized enterprises, especially those in the manufacturing, banking and finance, public utility and service industries.

"PCCW is committed to helping enterprises capitalize on strategic Internet procurement opportunities," said Mr. Thomas Siu, president of PCCW Business eSolutions. "Our partnership with Ariba will enable enterprises to work with a single service provider on the entire e-procurement process, from workflow analysis, software procurement, system integration, implementation and ongoing enhancements to enabling the digital transformation of product catalogues.

"Ariba has become the latest collaborative business partner of PCCW's MartPOWER eMarketplace," Mr. Siu said, signifying progress in bringing together key industry players with leading-edge technology to build MartPOWER into the e-trading hub of Asia.

"Together, PCCW and Ariba will play a vital role in spearheading e-procurement development in the region and empowering businesses for value creation," he said.

PCCW brings practical e-procurement experience to the partnership, managing more than 20,000 online purchase orders annually, and empowering 2,000 internal end-users to purchase directly from external vendors over the Internet.

Dr. Mukesh Aghi, Senior Vice President, Ariba Asia Pacific, said "We are pleased to team up with PCCW, which has a strong B2B infrastructure and a professional, integrated e-business solutions platform for e-procurement and e-trading. PCCW's proven business strategy combined with its solid experience in e-procurement make it an ideal partner to help extend the reach of Ariba B2B eCommerce Solutions to enterprises of all sizes in Asia."

"Together, Ariba and PCCW will help enterprises streamline their operation processes, replace inefficient manual-purchasing procedures as well as save time and cost. We are confident that this partnership will enable enterprises to benefit greatly from enhanced collaborative supply-chain management and purchasing optimization," Dr. Aghi said.
