Powerb@se and VeriSign Global Registry Services Announce Cooperative Effort in Hosting Internet's Domain Name Servers

Hong Kong, November 9, 2000 -- Powerb@se, the data center service business of Pacific Century CyberWorks ("PCCW" SEHK: 0008) today announced an agreement with VeriSign Global Registry Services (a division of Network Solutions, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of VeriSign, Inc.) to host one of 12 global domain name system (DNS) servers for the .com, .net and .org top-level domains.

Under the agreement, Powerb@se will provide co-location facilities, Internet connectivity, and remote hands-on support for the name server in its Hong Kong data centers.

The DNS servers are critical to the basic functioning of the Internet, representing the first step in the process leading users to Web sites using a domain name (e.g. www.pbase.net or www.verisign.com). Positioning the DNS servers at key geographic and topological locations throughout the world helps improve response time and availability for the increasingly global Internet community.

"We selected Powerb@se as a partner in hosting the name servers because of their professional service, outstanding performance in network architectures and their excellent system reliability and availability," said Bruce Chovnick, general manager of VeriSign Global Registry Services.

"We are delighted that VeriSign GRS has selected Powerb@se to host the Hong Kong name server, leveraging the proven network performance of our data centers for high-volume data transmission over the Internet," said Joseph Ma, president of Data Center and Web-Hosting Services, Net Enterprises of PCCW.

"This partnership is further evidence of our commitment to become the leading provider of e-business infrastructure services for mission-critical Internet operations of enterprise corporations and for the overall development of e-business in Hong Kong and Asia."

To meet an ever-increasing volume of data traffic generated by cross-border Internet activities, Powerb@se plans to upgrade existing Internet connectivity with OC3 (Optical Carrier Level 3 at 155 Mbps) connection internationally, and enhance Hong Kong's exchange network speed.
