PCCW's POWERLogistics forms alliance with Jardine Logistics Services

Improves service reach throughout greater China

Hong Kong, June 5, 2001 - POWERLogistics, a unit of PCCW's Business eSolutions, today announced an alliance with Jardine Logistics Services (HKG) Limited to offer e-commerce companies in greater China warehousing, logistics and fulfillment services.

Under POWERLogistics' "eLogistics Solutions" brand, the alliance will offer enterprises a full range of management and fulfillment solutions, enabling companies to streamline their supply chain by integrating logistics functions such as orders and processing, invoicing, warehouse and inventory management, delivery, installation and payment collection. eLogistics Solutions also provides online tracking and tracing through its fleet management system, which employs electronic mapping and the Global Positioning System.

With a global-distribution network of more than 80 countries, Jardine Logistics Services brings to the alliance its international expertise in integrated forwarding, warehousing and distribution, and specialized freight and transportation services. POWERLogistics will add its expertise in solutions design, supply-chain management, and related fulfillment and logistics services under its sophisticated IT platform.

Thomas Siu, president of PCCW Business eSolutions, said the Jardine alliance will create benefits for both companies: "We can jointly seek marketing opportunities aggressively throughout greater China for our integrated solutions. The alliance takes advantage of each party's strengths to supply and/or cross-sell a broad range of goods and services to third parties.

"This partnership enables us to target trading and manufacturing industries throughout greater China particularly, where there is a strong need for services in customized transport and distribution, one-stop customs clearing and management systems to handle the logistics of the supply chain," Mr. Siu said.

A recent report from IDC 2000 forecast bullish growth in the B2B e-commerce sector in the next four years in greater China. B2B revenues throughout the Asia-Pacific region (ex-Japan) could experience a compound annual growth rate (CARG) of 112 percent, hitting US$113 billion by 2004. China B2B is expected to outpace predicted rates for the region as a whole, with a CARG of 140 percent, rising from US$1.54 billion in 2001 to US$21.3 billion in 2004.

Gary Chan, managing director of POWERLogistics, said: "Effective electronic logistics management can enhance the visibility of the supply chain, reduce delivery errors and improve operational efficiencies. This partnership strengthens our ability to provide total solutions and transform the logistics management of a whole range of enterprises."

eLogistics Solutions enables enterprises to reduce operating costs by an estimated 15 percent to 30 percent, streamlining management of receiving, storage and dispatch, and boosting competitiveness.

David Clymo, chief executive of Jardine Logistics Services, said: "After a thorough search, we finally chose to form an alliance with PCCW, which offers solid infrastructure support and a strong client roster. I believe we can work jointly to develop new e-business models and e-logistics products."

As part of PCCW Business eSolutions' 700-plus workforce, POWERLogistics' IT professionals offer strong support to the unit's own e-logistics operations, including management of its warehouses and motor pool as well as order tracking and tracing.

Already, the alliance has signed such clients as Tiny Computers, UK's largest PC manufacturer with an international network of more than 200 showrooms and sales offices around the world. PCCW plans to expand its network of partners, boosting its ability to provide total enterprise solutions in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.
