Hong Kong August 20, 2002 - PCCW's Business eSolutions announced today that its Application Management Services has been qualified at Level 4 of the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model? for Software (SW-CMM?, a key benchmark for software engineering excellence.
To achieve this prestigious rating, the Application Management Service team - part of PCCW's Outsourcing and Managed Services (OMS) - demonstrated it had developed an integrated set of well-defined software engineering and management processes that are stable, repeatable and institutionalized.
Furthermore, the team demonstrated that products and processes are quantitatively controlled and managed through defined metrics.
"Achieving a CMM level 4 rating is not only a significant milestone within PCCW, but it also reinforces Hong Kong's drive towards building a high quality software industry," said Thomas Siu, president of PCCW's Business eSolutions.
"We will continue to refine and improve our software engineering and management processes to provide customers with the highest quality services."
CMM provides a framework for performing quality work on software development and maintenance projects, while establishing criteria for processes that enable software managers and technical staff to perform more effectively. The objective is to attain increasingly more predictable process performance and product quality, while minimizing variations in performance within an organization.
The CMM Level 4 rating is based on a set of software engineering key practice areas that improve the ability of an organization to meet goals for cost, schedule, functionality and product quality.
Completed in the last week of July, the assessment included a rigorous review on maturity questionnaires, project documentation, audit and interviews with senior management, project managers, development staff and functional area representatives in the OMS group.
