PCCW targets local and mainland businesses with new IT solutions brand: Unihub

HONG KONG, September 1, 2003 - PCCW Limited today launched Unihub, its new IT solutions brand. Unihub aims to maximize the potential of businesses in Hong Kong and mainland China, by providing integrated IT services and solutions supported by PCCW's powerful network infrastructure.

Unihub is so named because it operates as a center of high-quality professionals who help clients realize new business opportunities. With a team of more than 2,000 IT professionals, Unihub will build on a strong track record achieved by PCCW's internal specialist groups in order to concentrate efforts and focus on clients in the public, finance, and telecoms sectors, and cross border enterprises.

Thomas Siu, Managing Director of Unihub in Hong Kong, said, "By projecting PCCW's unparalleled expertise under the Unihub brand, we intend to provide clients with industry-focused applications and IT outsourcing services and in so doing become the leading IT service provider in Asia."

"Team members have already demonstrated our capabilities and industry expertise by serving multiple institutions on the design, build and operation of mission critical platforms. Projects have included the Smart ID Card System for the HKSAR Government, the Automatic Matching system/3 for the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Flight Information Display System for Hong Kong Airport and the ERP System for China Mobile."

Mr Siu said that the creation of Unihub was in direct response to a market need for a "total solutions provider" that aggregates the best technologies to help clients enhance their enterprise communications channels and raise service standards in order to create and realize new business opportunities.

"We know from experience that maintaining competitiveness is a common challenge found in the public finance and telecoms sectors. To address this challenge, we propose offering well planned reengineering of operation and management disciplines built upon a well-architected IT and network infrastructure", he said.

"Unihub believes that its mission of becoming a leading IT service provider in the region will be built upon its integrated capabilities but ultimately it can only be achieved through the success of its clients."

International Data Corporation forecasts that by 2006, China and Hong Kong's IT service market will exceed US$10.1 billion and the compound annual growth rate for 2002 to 2006 will be at 23%.

Institutions are demanding new ways to drastically enhance operation efficiency. Heightened adoption of IP based data, voice and video technologies are also expected to expand the scope and scale of enterprise IT requirements.

Mr Siu said, "With the integration of IT and telecommunications technologies, Unihub is ideally positioned to be the best service partner to institutions seeking to heighten their capabilities in an increasingly competitive market environment."
